Hello, and we're glad you found us! We in Greenville love our artists and
artisans! We appreciate the work you do in both easy and stressful times. You
produce food for our souls, and we thank you for it.
Due to COVID-19, we did not activate the Artisan Village in 2020. However, we will be bigger and better than ever this season. Please let us know of your interest, send any questions you might have, send your application, and let’s get the expanded 2021 season started!
The Artisan Village follows state and CDC guidelines on COVID-19. Currently, masks and social distancing are required in all public spaces, regardless of vaccination status. Artists will be required to follow these guidelines, and to have hand sanitizer available to visitors.
We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you very much!
– The Downtown Committee of Greenville, Maine
The Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation (MLREDC) proudly announces our third season for our Artisan Village! Three cottages will be available for artists to lease for a week (Wednesday-Tuesday) from June 30 through November 2 at $75/week. This is a very affordable venue for artisans to display and sell their handmade arts and crafts in downtown Greenville.
The location of the cottages has changed. The cottages will be located at 16 Moosehead Lake Road between the Moosehead Traders shop and the Big Apple gas station. This is a highly visible space to everyone entering Greenville and is steps away from Pritham Avenue and the Moosehead Lake shorefront. Our artist in residence reports more foot traffic in the new location, and a record sales year!
The Artisan Village offers a unique opportunity to market your arts and crafts to local residents and to the thousands of tourists who visit the Moosehead Lake region during the summer from Maine, the Northeast, and across the United States and beyond. The Moosehead Lake Artisan Village is one of our community’s creative strategies to enhance economic prosperity in our region.
Jump on board this exciting venture in one of the most stunningly beautiful places in America!
Applications are now being accepted for the 2021 season. Artists must complete the application form, providing brief biographical information as well as three to five high resolution images of their work. There is no application fee.
Artists who leased a cottage during our 2018 or 2019 seasons need not resubmit images of their work.
Artists who work in all kinds of media are encouraged to apply. We seek unique, high quality work that is handmade or hand-crafted by participating artists and do not accept products that are bought or acquired for resale.
We especially encourage artist demonstrations.
Your application and fee may be submitted by the following methods:

RENTAL LICENSE AGREEMENT, FEE, AND CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE.
Upon notification of acceptance, artists will be required to sign and return a rental license agreement with the requisite fee of $75 per week and a certificate of general liability insurance with a minimum coverage of $1 million, preferably within 15 days. The certificate of insurance must name both the Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation and Watt Management Realty as additional insured entities.
Please note that there are many reasonably priced options for general liability insurance including a stand-alone short-term policy, a rider on your business owner’s or homeowner’s insurance, or other options specifically designed for artists, craftsmen, and tradesmen. The MLREDC does not recommend any specific insurance agency. The insurance agency that most past artists have used is ACT Insurance (ACTinsurance.com).
You may submit your signed lease agreement and a copy of the certificate of insurance and pay the lease fee through PayPal online at our website www.MooseheadArtisanVillage.com. DESCRIPTION AND USE OF COTTAGES.
The cottages are located at 16 Moosehead Lake Road between the Moosehead Traders store and the Big Apple gas station.
Each cottage is 10’ x 8’ with a 10’ x 4’ covered front porch with railing. There is a large double door equipped with a security lock and windows on two sides. There are no window shades or curtains.
Each cottage is equipped with an exterior porch light, an interior track light, two electrical outlets, a trash receptacle, and broom.
Participating artists provide their own tables, chairs, display units, and heaters/cooling fans. Artists are welcome and encouraged to bring their own canopy and/or market umbrella to place in front of the cottage. Please note that the space is paved and can be windy.
Parking is available at the Moosehead Traders parking lot or in other nearby public parking areas at no charge. For set-up and take-down, artists may bring their vehicles as close to the cottage as is feasible – generally within ten yards or less.
A key to the cottage is available in a lock box to the right of the cottage doors. You will be notified of the lock box combination after receipt of your license agreement, certificate of insurance, and lease fee. The key must be returned to the lockbox when you depart.
The cottages will be available for a 7-day week lease from June 30 to November 2, 2021.
Move-in/set-up day is the first day of the lease period, and move-out day is the last day of the lease period by 11:00 pm.
An artist may use the cottage during the lease week when they wish. They are not required to be open on any specific day or time, and are welcome to move in and out at their convenience within the lease week.
The Artisan Village Programming Committee will consider special requests from artists on the lease period or other operational procedures. Please make a special request on the application form on page 2.
Be sure to look at the community’s list of events and other activities in the Moosehead Lake region online at www.destinationmooseheadlake.com/events for assistance in determining your preferred schedule.
HOURS OF OPERATION. Hours of operation within the lease week will be determined by the artist. Artists are welcome to share cottages. In such cases, the names of all artists must be included on the application.
MARKETING. The Artisan Village will be promoted widely throughout the season through our websites, social media, and print media. Artists are encouraged to promote themselves via their personal marketing channels.
FEEDBACK ON YOUR EXPERIENCE. At the end of the lease period, we will email artists a feedback questionnaire with comments on operations and overall experience as well as a report on the number of visitors to their cottage, number of sales made, and gross dollar revenue. This information will be used solely by the Artisan Village committee for assessing our program and planning for the next year. The information will be kept confidential. We ask that the questionnaire be completed and returned within a week of the end of the lease.
QUESTIONS? If you have any questions about the program or application process, please contact the Artisan Village Coordinator by email at email@example.com.
