About Moosehead Lake Artisan Village

The Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation announces its second annual season for its Artisan Village situated on the southern shore of Moosehead Lake in Greenville, Maine. Four cottages are available for three- and five-day lease from July 3 to September 8, 2019.

2019 PROGRAM SUMMARY


The Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation (MLREDC) proudly announces our second season for our Artisan Village. Four cottages will be available on the southern shore of Moosehead Lake in Greenville throughout the summer season as an affordable venue for artisans to display and sell their handmade arts and crafts. The location is a highly visible space among other shops, restaurants, and museums in the center of town. It offers a unique opportunity to market arts and crafts to local residents and to the thousands of tourists who visit the Moosehead Lake region during the summer from Maine, the Northeast, and across the United States and beyond. The Moosehead Lake Artisan Village is one of our community’s creative strategies to enhance economic prosperity in our region.

Artist Application.
 Applications are now being accepted for the 2019 season. Artists must complete the application form, providing brief biographical information as well as three to five high resolution images of their work. There is a $25 application fee.
 Artists who leased a cottage during our 2017 pilot season or our 2018 season need not resubmit images of their work. We also will waive the application fee for returning artists.
 Artists who work in all kinds of media are encouraged to apply. We seek unique, high quality work that is handmade or hand-crafted by participating artists and do not accept products that are bought or acquired for resale.
 We especially encourage artist demonstrations.

NOTE: The application fee is waived for returning artists


 The Artisan Village Coordinator will immediately notify applicants by email acknowledging receipt of application.
 A local jury will review applications to ensure quality and variety. Selections will be made by January 20 from applications received by then and, subsequently, on a rolling basis until all weeks and weekends are leased.

RENTAL LICENSE AGREEMENT, FEE, AND CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE.
 Upon notification of acceptance, artists will be required to sign and return a rental license agreement with the requisite fee of $75/5-day week or $50/3-day weekend and a certificate of general liability insurance, preferably within ten days. The application fee is non-refundable. The certificate of insurance must name the Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation and 35 Pritham Avenue LLC as additional insured entities.
 Please note that there are many reasonably priced options for artists including a stand-alone short-term policy, a rider on your business owner’s or homeowner’s insurance, or other options specifically designed for artists, craftsmen, and tradesmen such as ACT Insurance. You may submit your signed lease agreement and a copy of the certificate of insurance and pay the lease fee through PayPal online at our website www.MooseheadArtisanVillage.com. DESCRIPTION AND USE OF COTTAGES.
 The cottages are located at the Moosehead Lake waterfront at 35 Pritham Avenue, immediately across the street from Jamo’s Pizza shop.
 Each cottage is 10’ x 8’ with a 10’ x 4’ covered front porch with railing. There is a large double door equipped with a security lock and windows on two sides. There are no window shades or curtains.
 Each cottage is equipped with an exterior porch light, an interior track light, two electrical outlets, a trash receptacle, and broom.
 Participating artists provide their own tables, chairs, and display units.
 Parking is available in nearby parking lots or in other nearby public parking areas at no charge. For set-up and take-down, artists may bring their vehicles as close to the cottage as is feasible.
 A key to the cottage are available in a lock box to the right of the cottage doors. You will be notified of the lock box combination and other information, after receipt of your license agreement, certificate of insurance, and lease fee. The key must be returned to the lockbox when you depart.

SCHEDULE.
 The cottages will be available for 3-day weekend and 5-day week lease from July 3 to September 8, 2019. Move-in/set-up day is the day before the lease period, after 4:00 pm, and move-out day is the day after the lease period by 11:00 am. An artist may lease a cottage for more than one 3-day weekend or one 5-day week; the maximum number of weeks and/or weekends is four. The Artisan Village Programming Committee will consider special requests from artists on the lease period or other operational procedures. Please make a special request on the application form on page 2.
 Be sure to look at the community’s list of events and other activities in the Moosehead Lake region online at www.destinationmooseheadlake.com/events for assistance in determining your preferred schedule.

HOURS OF OPERATION. Hours of operation are from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Artists may choose to open earlier or stay open later and take a break for a meal; otherwise, the cottage must be open and staffed by the artist during the designated hours. In the event of severe weather or a medical or other emergency, artists are asked to contact the Artisan Village Coordinator by email at info@mooseheadartisanvillage.com if the cottage will be closed.

LODGING. Please indicate on your application form if you live out of our area and are interested in complimentary and reduced-rate lodging.

MARKETING. The Artisan Village will be part of the MLREDC regional marketing plans and will be promoted widely throughout the season through our websites, social media, and print media. Announcements also will be made regularly to local hotels, inns, and camps for their guests. Artists also are encouraged to promote themselves via their personal marketing channels.

FEEDBACK ON YOUR EXPERIENCE. At the end of the lease period, we ask that artists complete a feedback questionnaire with comments on operations and overall experience as well as a report on the number of visitors to their cottage, number of sales made, and gross dollar revenue. This information will be used solely by the Artisan Village committee for assessing our program and planning for the next year. The information will be kept confidential. The questionnaire may be left at the Northwoods Camp Rentals office when returning the cottage keys.
